7 Weeks in the NICU

Liam had surgery last Tuesday on his throat and his stomach, in an effort to allow him a better airway for breathing and to get a stomach tube for feeding as well as re-organizing his intestines for processing food. The surgeries were successful as far as being safely executed, but recovery has been poor and sometimes heading the wrong direction. His surgical sites haven’t been healing properly, there have been infections that we’ve been working to identify and neutralize, issues getting his intestines back up and running, and certainly lots of pain for the little man in the process. Addressing these issues has set back our hopes of getting to the stage where we are monitoring him in the NICU in an environment more similar to what we will be able to create at home, so that we can work towards a safe discharge. Safe will always be said with some air quotes really, as he will always be unpredictable and at risk no matter what’s put in place, but we are doing our best to make sure we cover him with love and take every precautionary step that we can to get him home safe and sound. Discharge is likely a few weeks away hopefully. We would love continued prayers for endurance and peace for us and all our kids, and thank you for praying for us, continuing to provide meals, serving our family, and really wrapping around us with love. We appreciate it every day.
